Google Chrome gets fashionable

November 2nd, 2009 by Vero

To get to our favourite sites on the web, we all use a web browser – be it Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari or one of the many alternatives. Recently, Google launched Chrome, its own browser, and decided to clutch at our fashionable strings to pull us their way by using some gorgeous fashionable browser themes.

From Dolce & Gabbana, Matthew Williamson and Donna Karan to Mulberry, Cath Kidston and Vivienne Westwood, these designers have all taken part in Google’s attempt to brighten up our day.

Have a look for yourself at the full gallery, but below are a few of our favourites at the moment!

My name is Stacey & I’m an Italian Fashion Addict

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Gucci 2009

Two words this week have sent my brain into a frenzy, my heart rate soaring and my credit cards flexing each time I have heard them. I simply have not been able to contain my excitement, my euphoria and glee; not to mention the anticipation of not knowing “exactly when”. I am referring to the arrival of two of my most loved and favoured designer brands of all time – Armani and Gucci.

Italians Do it Best!

The designers we saw adorning the runways last week at Milan Fashion Week are simply the best and Bicester Village has many of them. First there was Salvatore Ferragamo (who currently has 70% off handbags), then MaxMara, renowned for their cosy camel coats; Versace and their red carpet glamour; Marni who are the fashionistas favourite must-have label and the dramatic Dolce & Gabbana.

This week we opened Armani. Yippee! The boutique is lush and houses a fabulous collection of Armani’s many different labels including Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans as well as Armani Collezione of course!

I dare you not to find anything in there for yourself, whether man, woman or child. There is not one man I know of who doesn’t look good in an Armani suit, or boxer-shorts a la David Beckham

Tomorrow is the day we welcome Gucci!! As I write this I am breathing into a brown paper bag. So if you were wondering why I think Bicester Village is probably the most exciting place to work; now you know. The downside is I am tempted and teased by almost all of the 125 designer labels on a daily basis.

Please Don’t Tease Me!

Remember that scene in “Confessions of a Shopaholic”when the mannequins in the windows of Fifth Avenue are waving and dancing as Isla Fisher walks past? That is what it is like. A girl needs blinkers just to leave the safe confines of the office and venture out to buy a cup of coffee! Instead of a Prêt sandwich I end up with a serving of Prêt-à-Porterand this does not make me popular with my bank manager. Yes he must think I am a Bicester Village addict with my daily “lunchtime” purchases, but I can’t resist. I have told him I work there but he doesn’t get it. I can’t expect everyone to understand. Lunchtimes are empty without even a mug from Cath Kidston, a MAC lipstick from The Cosmetics Store, a Kenneth Turner candle (love these) or a darling little leather notebook from Smythson. I tell you it is not easy, but this is why we invented credit cards.

To Madonna With Love & Gratitude

Madonna in Gucci 1995

Madonna in Gucci 1995

And so to Gucci. For me it is a brand with an exciting heritage. In the 60’s and 70’s Gucci was worn by  Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Onassis. In recent years under the direction of Tom Ford and now Frida Giannini the Gucci label continues to excite, delight and inform fashion.  My love for Gucci began when Madonna wore “those” midnight blue velvet trousers in 1995 to the MTV Music Awards. It was Tom Ford’s first year at Gucci and his Halston-style velvet hipsters, skinny satin shirts and car-finish metallic patent boots put the glamour back into Gucci. The Gucci look was aspirational, it was almost hedonistic but most of all it was sexy and elegant, and my friends and I were hooked. We spent years raiding vintage stores looking for these pieces, but never found them. I think this is why my friend Nessa named her Burmese cat Gucci…I shall ask her.

3 October is Tomorrow and D-Day!

The Gucci look is unique. I am already trying to get into the boutique for a sneak peek at their goodies and fabulous shop-fit, but the powers that be won’t allow it, it’s all very secretive but I have been told they have accessories galore and an enormous collection of handbags priced between 50% and 60% off the RRP. Hurrah, more handbags, wallets and shoes and of course collectible clothes to absolutely die for. I may have to invest in an LGD (Little Gucci Dress) for New Year’s Eve and I may have to invest in a larger house with bigger closets.

Hurry up Saturday. It’s just one day away but it is hard to wait! It is a rare occurrence I would go to Bicester Village at the weekend when not at work, it’s also quieter and more relaxed during the week, but I wonder if I will hold out till Monday? I’ll let you know.

Ciao for now x

From Transatlantic Chic to European Elite

Paul Smith

Paul Smith

I didn’t go to the shows, but was rooted to my Blackberry throughout, eagerly digesting every morsel of info that was tweeted, facebooked and blogged by the fashion press on a daily basis. The shows have been glossy and dramatic, everything we wanted them to be and more. Our grateful thanks goes to Hilary Alexander, Bitchbuzz, DisneyRollerGirl, Grazia and Elle, who between them sent approximately 10 tweets per minute from London Fashion Week and delivered the drama from the runway into the palm of my hand. The great surprise was Tavi Gevinson, the 13 year old fashion blogger from Chicago suburbia whose Style Rookie blog has had the fashion industry at her feet and Peaches Geldof reporting for GMTV!! Ah how I love fashion’s “New Year” and it’s not over yet!

From New York & London

With their glamorous celebrity filled front rows and continual buzz, New York and London did not fail to impress. As Gwyneth Paltrow said “London is where it’s at. It inspires the world”. How much did we love Burberry’s return to the London runway?  Emma Watson is our new Brit icon for the modern woman, and she glowed in the front row as Burberry presented the 2010 twist to their classic belted trench coat with puff sleeves and shimmering sparkles. Cue investment piece, if you don’t have a Burberry trench, get one now and love it for eternity.

DKNY

DKNY

Looking at the collections en masse one thing springs to mind – legs! I have till March to achieve honed and toned pins, for the trend for shorts will continue from now through to next year. It is one thing to wear city shorts with black opaque tights underneath (bring on November), but totally bare skinned? There is much work to be done before next spring.

I loved the way Paul Smith combined tailored city shorts with African themed leopard-prints, English gentry inspired leather elbow patches and his trademark stripes. Nicole Farhi’s playsuits in delicate pastel prints were casual and fun and Ralph Lauren’s denim was different, but it was DKNY who really went to town with city shorts and romper suits – chic and sporty in neutrals and bold brights and worn with cycle shorts underneath!!
Yes Bridget Jones underwear as outerwear for the summer to go under everything, from shorts to playsuits and dresses. Donna Karan really knows how to dress women.
Pure genius!

Matthew Williamson

Matthew Williamson

But it was Matthew Williamson’s return to London Fashion Week that was my moment of pure happiness. He may have moved away from Boho chic to more structured & graphic pieces but own a Matthew Williamson from any collection and it is considered money well spent for seasons to come. His work is timeless.

Viva Italia

Now to Milan in beautiful Italy, the home to some of the world’s most renowned designers including Gucci, Pucci, Missoni, Armani, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo and Prada, where this week it’s the Italian designers chance to show off their talents. I personally am rather excited about this as Italians do fashion like no other.

So far we have seen headscarves at Marni, the return of the corset from Dolce & Gabbana which is heralded as the one single piece of must-have-clothing for next spring/summer and super-sexy bodycon from Gucci. Diet starts now.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana

Saving the Best till Last

Tomorrow is Paris, the crème de la crème of all Fashion Weeks. I am anticipating more sexy silhouettes, tulle and sparkles and simply cannot wait to see the creations from Vivienne Westwood (my favourite, we love her always), Balenciaga, Balmain, Maison Martin Margiela, Gareth Pugh, Loewe, Valentino, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Chloe, Stella McCartney, Giles and of course John Galliano, Chanel, Celine and Christian Dior.

Until then…au revoir!

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Left to right: Temperley dress, Anya Hindmarch clutch, Jimmy Choo heels, Versace Home tea set, Luella dress

It feels like only weeks ago that I heard this ultra sonic sound on the other end of the phone; we’ve been friends for 18 years and even though I don’t speak “squeak” I understood immediately that he’d done the deed and proposed on a moonlit wintery eve in Prague.

Panic: What do I wear!?

So there I was sat at my desk at work, two weeks away from the big day and wondering what I was going to wear, what was I going to buy them and how I was going to help – was I the worst best friend ever?

At that precise moment the bride-to-be floated into my office with a gleaming smile embracing the most exquisite vintage wedding dress from Temperley London whose whimsical design, according to The Guardian, is also favoured by Gwyneth Paltrow & Helena Christensen. She was accompanied by another bag cradling an outstanding pair of ivory satin wedding shoes from Jimmy Choo also favoured by a variety of celebs. Dress and shoes both found in Bicester Village. Yes Bicester Outlet Village, my very own work place, I was saved!

Shamed at my lack of organisation and determined, I set out to look for a dress to wear and it was a matter of minutes before I had my first dilemma, do I get the pretty hippy-ish wedding-in-a-field long floaty dress from Temperley too a la Sienna Miller or the Luella  fitted short tailored party number? It was not long before I forgot about them both and took refuge in a childhood fave: Valentino and emerged a good hour later with my star buy – a gorgeous pale pink floaty dress with beading and little details to suit any happy occasion. Perfect!

The never-ending gift list

Triumphantly, I returned back to my desk showing off my new purchase getting approval and reassurance from my colleagues – I soon realised that I didn’t need to go much further than my own doorstep and started writing a list of things that I needed to buy:

  • Shoes
  • Bag
  • Suit for boyfriend
  • Proper wedding present
  • Pre-wedding present for my bessie-mate!

OK – yes I do have to work, so it took a few lunch hours over a few days, but I couldn’t be happier at the thought of having so much to choose from at my finger tips.

I found stunning shoes from Dolce & Gabbana, a satin and gold clutch from Anya Hindmarch and dinner suit from royal dresser Gieves & Hawkes (a very proud moment – looking at him in that uniform).

For their official wedding present, I bought a beautiful butterfly teapot, cups and saucers set by Versace in Waterford Wedgwood and girly pressie for my dearest friend – a little lacy outfit from La Perla.

With only days ago and much to my secret joy, panic set in with beautiful bride “Arggh I’ve got no shoes for the bridesmaids”.

Gorgeous Dunhill pen

Gorgeous Dunhill pen

“Not to worry,” I said ever so calmly, like I had been planning this for months, “I saw some ballet pumps in Accessorise.” I knew this after having eyed these lovely little hairclips there only the day before for my outfit.

So here I am ready and waiting for the big day, all prepared, redeemed and totally overwhelmed by the ease of what started out to be a never ending task. With a little cash to spare (as right now everything is reduced by up to 80%), I got my boyfriend a gorgeous Dunhill pen.

For those who get stuck on gift giving ideas there’s always the Bicester Village Gift Card which gives the recipient the choice to shop in any of the wonderful boutiques and restaurants.

For ever and ever

So thanks and congratulations to my dearest friend who inspired me and has pretty much singlehandedly planned and organised her entire wedding on a very tight budget; May you have a very long and happy marriage filled with many joyous and memorable moments.
